The limitations of conventional

mammography arise from :

• Detector
  • Restricted latitude and display contrast
  • Low quantum detection efficiency (56% at 20 KeV)

• Image acquisition geometry

• Inefficient scatter rejection scheme (Bucky-Potter grid)

Analog image. The film acts as image acquisition detector as well as storage and display device.
